Code of Conduct

Warriors Basketball wants each player and community member to have a great experience in basketball. We want all players to feel safe, feel included, and get the most out of our experience. This can only be achieved if everyone adheres to the policies outlined below.  

Warriors Basketball has a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination, abuse, violence and bullying. 

This Code of Conduct sets out what is expected of you and the club. Where a participant doesn’t meet the standards we all expect, action may be taken in line with our club policies outlined below. 

Setting high standards of integrity and conduct, throughout the sport will create better game day experiences for all. 

COACHING STAFF 

When working with a player/ parent, coaches will; 

  • Show respect to all members of the Warriors Community 

  • Ensure behaviour is exemplary and refrain from violent, abusive or confrontational conduct. 

  • Know and understand the rules.  

When working with players coaches will: 

  • Place the welfare and best interests of players at the centre of all coaching decisions, prioritising safety and wellbeing above competitive success.  

  • Actively promote a safe, inclusive, and discrimination free environment, fully complying with BE safeguarding requirements, Warriors Basketball Safeguarding expectations and report concerns promptly to the Welfare Officer. 

  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times by promoting fair play, respecting match officials and maintaining emotional control as a positive role model.  

  • Ensure all training and competition demands are appropriate to the age, maturity, experience, and ability of each player.  

  • Engage in reflective practice by welcoming feedback and committing to continuous professional development. 

  • Will actively support each player’s personal development throughout the season through two structured one‑to‑one meetings, providing constructive feedback and an individualised development plan. 

  • Not follow, interact or communicate with players on personal social media. 

 

PLAYER 

As players of Warriors Basketball, you are expected to; 

  • Attend all training sessions included within the programme and make myself available for games both home and away wherever possible.  

  • Communicate absences and availability changes promptly, responding to SPOND requests in a timely manner.  

  • Commit to giving your best effort at training and games and take responsibility for my own development.  

  • Support and encourage your teammates, leaving coaching decisions to the coaching staff.  

  • Show respect to your teammates, coaches, opponents, and game officials at all times, using appropriate language and behaviour.  

  • Accept decisions made by others and raise any concerns calmly and appropriately with the coaching staff or to a responsible adult within the club.  

  • Uphold Bes/ club safeguarding standards and know how to report any concerns.  

  • Promote an inclusive, discrimination-free environment and refrain from violent, abusive, or confrontational behaviour.  

  • Be open to feedback and actively seek opportunities to improve as a player. 

 

I understand that if I do not follow the clubs code of conduct, I will be asked to: 

  • to take part in a restorative conversation to reflect on my actions, understand the impact of my behaviour on others, and repair relationships where appropriate. 

  • apologise to any aggrieved parties. 

  • remain on the bench for the remainder of a game or training session. 

  • stay away from training sessions for an agreed amount of time. 

  • leave the club altogether if the above sanctions have not corrected my behaviour. 

 

All breaches of the Code of Conduct will be managed through a formal disciplinary process. Sanctions will be considered and agreed by the Head Coach in the first instance, with escalation to the Club Director for more serious or repeated misconduct.  

All behavioural concerns, investigations, and outcomes will be formally documented, retained on file for the duration of the season, and reviewed as necessary to ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability.  

This approach reflects the club’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and safeguarding the welfare of all participants. 

  

PARENT 

Parents/Guardians are expected to follow what is expected of the players, plus;  

  • Prioritise the safety, wellbeing, and safeguarding of all participants at all times.  

  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and discrimination‑free environment.  

  • Treat all players, coaches, and officials with respect, accepting decisions even when you disagree.  

  • Maintain positive behaviour and refrain from violent, abusive, or confrontational conduct.  

  • Raise concerns calmly and appropriately, following club safeguarding and reporting procedures.  

  • Respond promptly and politely to requests to amend behaviour.  

  • Understand that failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in the club or BE sanctions, including warnings, suspension from games, or required education or training.
