WARRIORS EBL START NEW YEAR WITH CRUCIAL HOME WIN OVER LEEDS CARNEGIE

EBL DIVISION 3 NORTH GAME – SATURDAY 14TH JANUARY

RESULT: TCAT WARRIORS 72 LEEDS CARNEGIE 60

Led by MVP Simon Hoar our flagship Senior Men’s Team recorded an outstanding win over Leeds Carnegie II tonight in what squad members knew was a game that they simply had to win. Siggy led all scorers with 18 points as the Warriors came through a hard fought battle against a talented Leeds team to pick up two vital league points.

After opening their campaign with a comfortable home win against the Birmingham Lions and following that up with a road win in Stockport a week later the Warriors’ fortunes have very much taken a turn for the worse.

Since those two wins in the first two weeks of the season the young Warriors have at times played some lovely basketball that has matched any other team in the league. However, they are always up against highly experienced opposition squads many of which contain ex-professional players.

It has been that gulf in experience which has resulted in the Warriors managing to pick up just one win in their last 8 games, and with bottom of the table Birmingham Lions now having withdrawn from the Division and the results of all their games being made void them now find themselves rooted near the bottom of the League table with just the Falcons below them.

Consequently, the Warriors Coaching team of Nico Kolokythas and ex- England U16 Head Coach Simon Fisher saw this weekend of back to back home games against Leeds and Stockport as see this as perhaps being the vital weekend of the season so far for their guys.

“With Carnegie having picked up just 1 win in their last 7 games and the Falcons having only won the once in their 13 outings we have a great opportunity to pick up 4 invaluable points with back to back victories”, says Head Coach Kolokythas.

“Our players were in no doubt what was at stake tonight against Carnegie and I am delighted that they responded so well to the challenge. Having come through this game with flying colours the squad now has to complete their task by winning again tomorrow. Against Stockport”

The Club is hoping that there will be another large crowd of partisan home fans in Sport TCAT at 4.00 pm tomorrow afternoon to cheer the guys on to another win against the Falcons. Doors open to spectators at 2.45 pm and tickets are £3 for adults and £1 for Juniors.

A FULL MATCH REPORT ON THIS GAME AND TOMORROW’S GAME VERSUS STOCKPORT WILL BE ON THE SITE TOMORROW NIGHT.
